I work by the United Nations and see various cars with Diplomat plates, mostly luxury cars and SUVs. This car though takes the cake on the cheapest Diplomat plated car I've seen to date.
Really a Caliber?

Maybe they're a Dodge diplomat?

Dodge Diplomat

Indeed

Well, the Chinese embassy here in Norway had a Ford Sierra up until 8 years ago or so (when someone drove it straight through the window of a kebabshop.)

A Portugese diplomat, no less. They could've brought over something seriously cool!

Just shut down this article. SM70 gave the only reply that's worth replying.

Probably a punishment for war crimes or genocide. Pretty cruel and unusual for that, though.

I live in Bergen County and will regularly see diplomatic plates on fairly pedestrian cars. Usually mini-vans and family sedans like the Camry.

How'd you figure Portuguese? I think the most odd but cool one is the Chevy SS, next time I see it around I'll take a picture.

Kebabs are good eating I can't blame them!
![]() 04/16/2015 at 11:49 |

I don't know why I found this funny.
![]() 04/16/2015 at 11:50 |

Lol are they forcing the Russians to drive these things?
![]() 04/16/2015 at 11:50 |

cause its funny?

Austerity measures were never meant to be this cruel.

10/10 would laugh again.

They had already ordered kebabs though :P

I saw a US diplomat here in Canada driving a first gen Honda CR-V.

Here in Ottawa we see a lot of red diplomat license plates. Many of them are German SUVs or luxo barges but I think I saw an Aztek once. The coolest is a white Scirocco I see once in a while.

I see a dented up, rusty, mid-90s Sentra with diplomat plates every couple weeks around here. I'll try to get a picture next time.
![]() 04/16/2015 at 11:56 |

The plates. For example, this one a saw is the (chief) diplomat to Singapore:
D=Diplomat, VK= Singapore, 0001= What you think it means.
![]() 04/16/2015 at 12:03 |

Whoa that's really old
![]() 04/16/2015 at 12:03 |

Aztek BLEGH! But a white Scirocco sounds pretty cool.

Why!? What country is forcing their representative to be driven around in that.
![]() 04/16/2015 at 12:05 |

Mind Blown.
Now next time I see that awesome S65 AMG I'll try to find out what country is the rep is from!
![]() 04/16/2015 at 12:09 |

Haha, no clue...though I'm sure it's not the ambassador or anything, probably some janitor or secretary or something. I see a lot of meh diplomatic plated cars driven by the staff, but that Sentra is in its own league of crap.
![]() 04/16/2015 at 12:29 |

I can tell you that the S600 you posted is from Rwanda.

They couldn't afford to with the whole "owing Germany money" thing going on...
![]() 04/16/2015 at 12:35 |

I know I just looked it up, someone just commented that it is armored due to the framing around the back windshield and I believe he's right since looking at a normal S class it doesn't have that. That's a proper diplomat vehicle!
![]() 04/16/2015 at 12:36 |
|
Yup, definitely armored.
![]() 04/16/2015 at 12:41 |

And remember, the first letter (or last, in the case of UN plates) indicates how much immunity they have.
D = they could kill you and get away with it
C = they could slap you and get away with it
S = they could say harsh words to you and get away with it
![]() 04/16/2015 at 12:47 |
|
But why? What kind of beef do they have that they would need an armored car in Manhattan? Probably moving drugs, money and gold.
![]() 04/16/2015 at 12:48 |
|
It's NYC anyone can say harsh words and get away with it, it's the only way we know how to speak.

That's just...sad somehow. If you were trying to show people how desperately you need foreign aid, a Caliber is a good choice, but Portugal is not in such bad shape.
![]() 04/16/2015 at 20:02 |
|
It's Portugal - the Caliber was probably the best that the buy here/pay here lot had in stock at the time.

I’ll see if I can get you the Cavalier with diplomat plates around here.
![]() 05/05/2015 at 16:03 |

Do it! So we can publicly shame the country!
![]() 05/05/2015 at 16:32 |

Oh, the country is South Africa that I already know. But I will make an attempt.
